I branch of nursing for me. It

I want to apply to (BsC) hons adult nursing because of it
noble and challenging nature. Being of service to people in need is something I
have always desired in a career. Being born and raised in the Netherlands has
given me many opportunities that my parents never had. Being brought up in a
caring household and access to good education has allowed me to embark on my
love of science and has given me a set of moral principles to live by.

During my weekends I work in Primark as a retail
assistant.  My duties consist of
primarily working on the shop floor, helping in the fitting rooms and assist on
the tills if needed. This job has also helped me improve my time-management
with getting tasks done on my own and in a team. This is crucial to getting
your section done as it gets very busy on the weekends. Although being a nurse
is very different from working in retail it has prepared me to work unsociable
hours, wear a uniform and follow instructions to provide an excellent and
professional service. It is important as a nurse to know your objective and be
able to achieve the goal of good care with a wide range of people. I also
volunteer as ward support on Tuesday afternoons at the Royal Infirmary,
Leicester. My duties consist of giving out food and drinks, assist with feeding
if necessary, filling water jugs and run errands for the patients if needed. My
interactions with patients especially the elderly put in perspective their
holistic needs such as having someone to talk and play games with to stay
mentally active. Working with mostly elderly and other adults really made me
secure my decision that adult nursing is the right branch of nursing for me. It
has given me a first-hand experience on how to show dignity and respect by
sitting eye-level and allow them to be independent as much as they can with
eating, drinking and grasping things nearby. I was given a chance to work
closely with nurses and assist them with tasks that they are not able to do
because of their busy schedule. This involved getting to know patients more and
have conversations with them to improve their stay at the hospital. Visiting
places around the hospital frequently amplified my desire to work in such an
environment. Volunteering is a commitment I am willing to spend my time on
because of how fulfilling it is to help patients and learn how to handle
situations I have never experienced before. It has motivated me immensely to
work harder for my grades, so I can start my road to become an excellent adult
nurse.

I study Chemistry, Biology and Health & social care at
college. Sciences have always been an interest of mine as long as I can
remember. Back in the Netherlands I was sure of continuing my studies of
Chemistry, Biology and Physics; but once I moved to England and had the option
of doing Health &social care I decided to drop physics. I am content with
the decision I made because I feel I have more of an understanding about caring
for a person and can relate knowledge from case studies to real life situations
involving people in care. Extended project allowed me to look in depth on ‘if
vaccinations should be a personal choice’. It gave me a view on how medicine
and religion come together to enlighten choices made by health professionals
and patients.

Because of my busy schedule I rarely have time to spend on
leisure activities. I do enjoy art and have always been into drawing. However,
after secondary school I prioritized science and chose not to do Art at
A-levels. I am an active doodler when it comes to concentrating in lessons. It
has helped me visualize problems and has improved my decision-making skills by
choosing what I want to portray on paper consciously and unconsciously.

I am aware of all the demanding work that is required to
become an adult nurse and the continuous studies to keep up with the standards
of care that change over time. I hope that allowing me to study at your
university will be the starting point of a remarkable career.
